Romantic Nights in Spain, Series One

This image is 9x12. It is one of a series reminding me of visits to Spain and particularly to the Alhambra in Granada. I had three strips of old watercolors that I pieced together and then added the collage half moons from other pieces . I then had the idea of the bubbles . There is actually a building in the Alhambra whose columns has lots of circles. More to come on this series.

This is number one of three collages to be shown together . Each one is 8x10. I will be posting the other two to be seen better. I used cardboard, tissue and part of a net from a potato sack I got at the grocery. I continue to produce these paintings which always remind me of underwater scenes or are symbols as my life in the tropics. Anyway, I had lots of fun creating this series.

Reflection Series Two

This series, number two of Reflections is 24x28. The method was the same as Reflections One, collage. There is a painting underneath which was used as inspiration to use part of it, the black lines and then I collaged parts of paintings which have similar colors or fitted what I was trying to do. I have also used very small pieces of white paper left over from cutting the sides of sheets used for cards.Hope this makes sense.

This is a series called Reflections, A New Day. The painting is 15x22.The painting has several layers. It waas done two paintings one on top of the other using only only part of each image from each painting and glued one to the other. Then I collaged the accents from parts of paintings I had.I am finding that I like collage work more and more. It combines my skills and works well for me.

My father was a very colorful person and a very active person and he took us lots of places. He built us a beach house where we would go for 3 months every summer after school was out. I am beginning to get really into abstracts. I combined these two paintings . I posted the one on the left by itself, but when my teacher came up yesterday, he suggested the two go together and that I float them on the mat as he liked the edges. Glad my blog visitors are liking my abstracts. I have found my niche in art. Am having a lot of fun with these new pieces. I have been super busy among other things painting. My teacher and friend challenged me to go altogether non-objective and do as many paintings as possible. I completed 50 in a little over a week. The effect of a net was created using cheese cloth which I glued with matte medium to the support. Afterwards I added some acrylic colors. Looking closely I saw the image of a fish. Having lived by the ocean as a child, I identify with marine themes and remember seing fish of this sort.

First, I gave the watercolor paper a wash of diluted acrylics. Then I glued a piece of cloth to the support and let it dry. I then painted the cloth and added some washes. Then I added the pieces of quilting material and glued them on to the piece of cloth. I thought it ressembled the bottom of the ocean and could see some fish swimming in the current.

I had this image in my bin and pulled it out. I had previously pasted blue and turquoise tissue paper on. As I listened to some fine music I begin to paste smaller pieces and collage them in as I felt moved to the music. I finished it by adding acrylic paint, poured, where I thought I needed to add color. A very enjoyable piece to paint.

This painting started with acrylic washes of pastel colors. Then I covered it with modeling pastel and after it was dried I covered it with paints of various colors poured on the canvas. After a few days I began to collage with various collage papers, a doyle and just pouring more paint in needed areas.

I have been trying to experiment using a comb with acrylics. I had some trouble finding a comb, but I finally found one.I used watercolor paper and gave it a few washes in watercolor and then in acrylics, both undilited and diluted. This was done after spread modeling paste over the original washes. After that, I ran a comb through the washes while wet both horizontally and vertically. I then ran the comb through again after drying it a little and got the white specs. I completed the painting by adding touches of color to the spot of interest.

I have been wanting to do this piece for a while. I took a piece of watercolor paper and applied modeling paste to the support. After the paste dried, I applied the yellow watercolor paint and then a lavender acrylic layer. I had a piece of Sumie paper that I had stained and applied it as well as some other pieces of shiny paper and more Sumie in another color. Then, I floated the piece on watercolor paper.

I painted this portrait of Karin Jurick for the most recent challenge on her blog Different Strokes From Different Folks. It was indeed a challenge. I tried the portrait in several media and worked for two weeks trying to get a likeness. I actually never got her as she is in the picture she sent me. The interesting part of this challenge is that Karin chose to paint me. Her painting of me is fabulous. The leaves been almost gone and it been Halloween this painting surfaced as a multi media work. Pouring was the method with liquid acrylics. A bit spooky.

I painted this scene for a challenge by Karin Jurick called Differetn Strokes From Different Folks. I painted it vertically and after surveying the opinion of some good artists like my friend Rosemary Sexton, I decided to re post it vertically. I like it better and had lots of fun with the subject.

Every Fall I walk the trails looking for different shape leaves and different colors. This year was no different and I got a collection of colors I liked. Therefore, voila, here is a painting.

I finally got a barn I like. I had taken several pictures . The scene was complicated, but I worked it out in a drawing first. I just intuitively painted the colors without regard to the photo.Am pleased with results
